It’s been more than 100 years of cinema in India but the Pahari region is still waiting for the beginning of cinema in these hill states. A few video films have made an entry into the Pahari cinema but they could not leave any impression among audience. These films were released in DVD’s and later on were uploaded on internet,but couldn’t earn enough ever to recover the investment.
Now a new entry in Pahari cinema is ‘Saanjh’, a film by Ajay Saklani and being produced by Silent Hills Studio a new production house started in Himachal. The film is starring two Bollywood actors Asif Basra and Taranjit Kaur. Asif is a well known actor in Bollywood with more than 35 films in his career. Asif has worked in Rules, Black Friday, Jab We Met, Parzania, Lamhaa, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Kai Po Che!, Krrish 3, Roy and many more. While Taranjit has worked in a few Bollywood films like Kahaani, Aankhon Dekhi and Airlift. Taranjit’s first film Raju, which was a student project won the Oscar Award in student film category. Rest all actors in the film are from Himachal Pradesh. Aditi Charak and Vishal Parpagga are playing the lead role in the film while Rupeshwari Sharma is playing a role of Dadi. Other actors include Dhirendra Singh Rawat, Tanu Bhardwaj, Sumit Sharma, Amit Patyal, Hoshiar Singh Gautam, Medhavini Sharma, Geetika Sharma, Abhilasha, Giandeep Singh and others.
‘Saanjh’ is a feature film raising the issue of migration and the loneliness of parents who have reached at the final stage of their life. The protagonist of the film is a 16-year-old girl forced to live in a village with her grand mother. While living in the village, this girl comes across the loneliness of her grand mother and other old age people. Their children have left the village in search of a better life and a fruitful career. They now live and work in metro cities while their parents struggles for livelihood as no one is there to care for them.
